What is a noun? A noun is a person, place, or thing. It is the main part of the subject of our sentences. By itself, it is the simple subject of a sentence. With all other words that are not in the predicate, we can find the complete subject. There are two types of nouns - common and proper.

Common Nouns A common noun gives a name to a person, place, or thing and starts with a lowercase (small) letter.

Proper Nouns A proper noun gives a name to one person, place, or thing. Each word found in a proper noun starts with a capital letter .

PronounsA pronoun takes the place of a common or proper noun. This keeps us from repeating the same words over and over.
